    TD5 Sump

Does the TD5 have a sump gasket or is it a silicone make your own? I am about to do my oil pump bolt and I went to repco and they did not list a gasket. Which means two things. Either they can't supply it or one does not exist.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

been wondering about this oil pump bolt myself,
TD5, with 258 on the od,
Wouldn't it of fallen out by now if it was going to
Or someone has already done it.
    What does one do?

Did mine at 110k/Kim's the bolt was tight but without Loctite it's worth the peace of mind.
I intended to replace it again at 200k Any comments would be appreciated

It's a rubber gasget with inserts around each bolt hole.
The one on mine had torn next to the inserts.
You'll also need to run 3 beads of silicone, 2 front, 1 rear.

Like Kyle says ^^^ you MUST use a gasket, preferably of genuine or OE quality. It is not a job you want to do again because of inferior parts.

Go genuine for sure. Spend a few more $ and then know that it will have all the holes line up properly. Have a look at my link below showing some useful photos that I took while doing this job the other day.

also - do the /untensioning/tensioning sequence right for the sump bolts unless you want to risk cracking the alloy sump or getting a poor seal. Some rtv silicone is required at a couple of key points. I suggest you get a Haynes manual to show the details or go to www.discovery2.co.uk / TD5 "Famous" Oil Pump Bolt
