Gearbox mounts and Transfer Case lever

    Hi there,

I've got some shiny new engine mounts for my TD5 Auto and have just figured it's probably a good idea to do the gearbox mounts while I'm at it. I've had a dig around but can't find anything on those; have found the excellent engine mount tutorial though.

Are there any tricks/traps when changing the gearbox mounts?

Also, the transfer case lever is loose and occasionally rattles; Can anyone describe how I remove it to inspect and tighten? RAVE just says 'remove'.

Any help greatly appreciated. Also, if you've been able to get the search engine to turn up hit on these topics - I'd be grateful if you could paste in the search strings/settings you used.

    cheers,

    bidds

There isn't much in the lever itself that is going to require repairing. Perhaps cable adjustment or loose mounting bolts.

If access is anything like doing the CDL lever changeover you'll need to remove the centre console to get access. Once you can get at the mounting there are 4 bolts that hold the lever in place.

    cheers

I'm thinking it'll be easier than removing the whole console. On RAVE I found this :
"4. Release clips securing transfer box lever gaiter
to centre console and remove knob and gaiter." (This is the start of removing the console)

Had me stumped. But I just had another poke at it and by pushing into the gaiter and feeling around was able to curl a finger around the plastic spring clips and pull them towards the lever (into the middle of the gaiter), if that makes any sense. No wonder LR didn't bother trying to describe it! Release each clip at a time while applying upward pressure the gaiter and each side pops up. The clips are located mid-way on each of the sides.

The gearbox mounts are fairly simple.
I had mine off when doing the transfer box leaks/shims.
With the engine mounts fitted place a jack under the transferbox to take the weight.
Lossen the centre nut, raise jack slighly, undo mounts and remove.
One had to be twisted/rolled out, the other almost fell off once unbolted.
