How are your turbo hoses?
Hi everyone
i was wondering if any lives close to Katherine in the NT who has a nanocom that could possilbly give me a hand.
i Have landrover discovery td5 it has started blowing white smoke, im not loosing any coolant also checked to see if the coolant was bubbling as i couldnt find a pressure tester that fit, cleaned MAF sensor, and a new air filter. the smoke is very tempramental, and yesterday it looked like it had a bit of a blue tinge to it so its thrown me completly, so Now turbo seal, valve seals?
any help will be much appriecated
cheers connor
I reckon Alice Springs is about far.
How are your turbo hoses?
intake hose a fair bit of oil in it,there is sticky oil around the intake manifold too, should i take the exhaust of to see if there is oil in there, it seems like the smoke wont start untill engine is hot i stop the car for a bit and then turn the car back on then the smoke starts
It would be worth cleaning the oil from the hoses (though wont cure the issue). A light coating is normal. Large amounts of oil are more sinister
The turbo hoses are known to delaminate and a "bubble" in the hose forms under pressure, blocking the flow and boost.
However this is usually accompanied by black smoke and power loss.
If you vehicle has the EGR valve still fitted (looks like a throttle body on the front of the inlet manifold) it may be stuck open, this can cause some smoke. Again usually accompanied by some power loss (not as dramatic as hoses)
A link for you to ponder. http://www.google.com.au/url'sa=t&rct=j&q=td5%20smoke%20aulro&source=web&cd =1&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CCAQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fww w.aulro.com%2Fafvb%2Ftechnical-chatter%2F154150-td5-blowing-white-smoke.html&ei=lclfUPHKO4LeigfbuoCIDg&usg=AFQjCNHDu Wrcv90YtQd2dhkxGJOegy0SQw
cheers
i have silicon hoses can they still delaminate and the egr is blanked
How is the oil level is it over full?
oil level is a bit under ful,l havent noticed any usage exhaust manifold to the turbo is leaking a fair bit, trying to upload photos
cant get the photos to work, but ive decided its either the turbo oil seal or valve stem seals is there any way of telling if its one or the other, hoses from intercooler to turbo have a lot of oil (pooling at lowest point) also have a pretty nasty oil leak from exhaust manifold were it bolts onto the engine,
any ideas would be great
When does the oil start in the hoses. i.e if the oil is in the intake (pre turbo) hose also, then you have oil being fed from the engine via the rocker cover breather hose.
Is there much "blow by" when the oil fill cap is removed with engine running?
Is this right? If you have oil coming from the exhaust manifold it is a head or head gasket.also have a pretty nasty oil leak from exhaust manifold were it bolts onto the engine,
cheers
hi guys fixed first problem was the oil seal in the turbo.
nowww smoke has come back but def white smoke took engine breather off and i would say there is more than usual coming out of there!!
faulty injectors/ injector seals?
any thoughts would help me greatly
thanks connor
