John, sorry to hear, the best bit of advice I can give is replace both lines, not just the leaking one, and genuine ones aren't expensive, best to just use them rather than get them 'repaired'.

on the way from melbourne to merimbula my 2004 d2a started reving a bit harder without going any harder so i pulled over with no drive at all it seems i have blown the auto cooler as there is transmission fluid everywhere , so im in merimbula now and my car is in bainsdale waiting to be looked at , is there any suggestions to possible other problems that could of occured while im waiting for it to be looked at as im suppost to be back in qld next weekend and dont want any more surprises on the way home

John, has one of the oil cooler hoses split or come has the connection to the oil cooler broken?
If it is just a split hose or broken connection, fix the problem, refill the transmission and go through the 're-filling procedure' making sure you keep filling the transmission as someone goes through the gears, and you should be OK to get back to QLD.

the car is at the racv in bairnsdale im in merimbula now so not 100% sure at least i will know what to ask them on monday when i ring
From memory when the transmission has catastrophic fluid loss it shuts down to prevent damage, so hopefully the transmission will be OK, but it takes time to get the oil fully through the transmission, so be patient,
I agree with Justin, if it is a hose, replace both hoses!it will be a lot cheaper than being struck on your way home.

Why do the connectors fail? Because they are a crap design and should have been recalled and decent connectors installed. Do not replace with OEM connectors. Get the connection "repaired" so it doesn't happen again.

Not sure they can be replaced easily without taking the OC out ???? but generally screw connectors are preferable to crimped connectors. Just replacing the hoses will get you back home and then you can think about doing a modification when you have the time /workshop space.

You need to pull the cooler and have alloy JIC male connectors fitted (screw type with tapered seat seal). The hose ends could be replaced but easier to remove whole hose from steel line and have male screw end JIC connections fitted to tube as well. Then the hose can be remade at any time with female ends.
