    Thermostat

    Anyone know how to test whether thermostat is ok? Thermostat had been removed from the car

    I would not know however!

    If you're worried then change it. Such a small price to pay for peace of mind and an integral part of the cooling system which if fails can cost you your engine!

    put it in the kettle
    put a thermometer in the kettle

    close, I boil them in a large pot while suspended from water and watch what it does through the openings.

    I ended up replacing with new one last night. When did a test drive around 15 km and switched off the car, opened the bonnet I could hear a hishing sound from expansion tank cap.

    Is that the sign of over pressurise? Could it be due to possibly air trap in the cooling system or could be HG is gone again?

    did you crack bleed screw to see, you should get a constant flow of coolant from the screw thread, good to check at normal op temp as the thermostat is open and you've just refilled
