Thread: Headlamp Protector advice?

I like the grill ones, but the perspex are probably better protection as they completely cover the headlight.
Not sure about the D2 specifically with the perspex units, but for most vehicles they slip on and off.
I know on my D2a I had to drill to fit the grill protectors.

I know for a fact you have to drill for the metal grill ones.
It's a pity they're so expensive, otherwise I'd have a set of front and rear ones

The grille style require drilling the guards and radiator grille surround.

Both are functional, but it depends if you are looking for branch/twig protection or stone protection.

The grille style are nylon not metal.

I see it as a no-contest. Have used the perspex style on all three of my Disco's over the years. The frequent stone chips from many kilometres of driving prove testament to saving many cracked headlight lenses. Would have to be a fairly large diameter rock for the grill style to offer any value !!

i put an invisable car bra on my disco which also does the headlights worth a look as it has saved the front of my car several times from stone chips etc

I would suggest to go with TD5WA and choose the perspex covers, especially for stones being kicked-up from other motorists. Not sure how functional the grill style would be in preventing branch/twig damage and expect they would break easily.

A relatively cheap and easy to fit alternative is to use the stick-on headlight film. Supposed to give better light transmission than hard plastic covers and much easier to keep clean and tidy

If you do go with the grill protectors make sure you definately like them. Once you drill there is no going back. On the bright side they do look good with safari and xrox bars. Probably better stone protection from the clear lenses though.
