removing top trans to engine bolts D2 V8?

Hoping some one can shed some wisdom on how to access the top 2 retaining bolts that secure the Auto Bell housing to rear of V8 motor.
Studied Rave and it mentions tilting the gear box down to gain access. This might be ok for a TD5 , but the V8 doesn't have much room to tilt back due to the ignition coil pack. I don't want to crush them against the bulkhead.

I have removed the centre console and tried feeding a long socket bar, but just can't seem to locate them. I didn't want to remove the intake manifold if I can avoid it. I don't want to remove more than needed.
I still don't know why it says to remove starter motor, the access to the torque converter retaining nuts was via the rubber bung on the drivers side. Maybe Rave refers more to TD5s.

On another note it's marvelous what one finds when you start the dismantling bits, Took the starter out only held by top bolt, easy job to get to when exhaust was out. "Previous mechanic" didn't see the need to fitting the other bolt. Transmission retaining bolts wrong sizes and nuts used to take up the gap from using over long bolts. Just little short cuts of not doing things correctly, she'll be right attitude of some.
    thanks guys, Mario

I usually use a long extension bar, a uni drive and a deep reach socket.

Don't know how much different the engine mounts are to a D1. On them I remove the engine mounts and brackets so the engine can be lowered enough to get good access to the top bolts from underneath.

BTW removing the manifold top and coil packs is about 1/2 hour's work, it's just a whole lot of odd bolts you need a 1/4 drive extension for.

long extention bars (multiple) all the way out the back of the trans and a wobble fitting at the front. engine will move back and rest on coils unless you're an experienced operator and place a block of wood between the rear of the head and firewall
