I know exactly why....because I am in Victoria and I am no longer looking for my d2 after having had to go to Sydney to get one!

Victoria has the term 'Toorak tractor' - and it's been more than 10 years since the D2 came out - and around the 10 year mark there always seems to be a rash of that age vehicles hit the market. Plus, insurance rates go up after you hit the 10yo mark, so I imagine it's a case of a mix of that and 'keeping up with the Jones'es' thing.

Because people see what I saw today, A D2 being winched onto the back of a flatbed.
Then they generalise and say "Must be unreliable." and don't buy them.
Truth is, there are so many about. They are a very common vehicle round these parts.
Put those two points together and that would part way explain why there are so many advertised down this way.
I've got my eye on one at the moment. Which one are you looking at?

It's the "Law of D2 Availability" which is roughly defined as

When looking to purchase a Discovery 2, the availability of a suitable vehicle increases in a direct relationship with the distance from the potential buyer. The greater the suitability of the vehicle the further the distance it will be located.

Once the buyer has found and purchased a vehicle, this law ceases to apply and a multitude of suitable vehicles come on to the market in the buyers immediate vicinity.

And you'll always be told by some forum member "I got mine for $x000" which is always at least $3-4,000 less than the current market price and what you paid.

I seem to recall member who would always post how he'd picked a D2a for much less than going rate. When you checked his other threads you'd discover he'd spent more than the purchase price on fixing it, but that never got mentioned

Mine's for sale at the moment, no other reason than I have ordered a New D4.

Will definately miss it but have enjoyed it so much, bought a new one!

    Cheers

yes well im in vic and my Ideal car would probably be oslo blue D2A with cream leather trim and rear air but haven't found one in good nick yet. So thinking about what else might be around.
thinking about a couple of vehicles atm.
there is 1 in qld, 1 in nsw and 2 in vic.
haven't decided yet whether it will be a td5 or a 4.6 (yes 4.6 not 4.0) on gas. I like my v8's and had a very modded 4.6 D1 for bout 6 years.

and yes JB very tempted to pop around to have a look at yours
