    Broken Headlight

I had to replace a blown globe in my D2a headlight. When removing the light I found that the fixing point behind the grill was broken. I had a look at the other side and found it was also broken. It is a pretty flimsy attachment and I would envisage that it is a common break. What are others doing about this?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    Had a smiliar issue.
It's simple repair job if the clip is still bolted onto the mount. Remeber, araldite is your friend. I also use this great stuff called selley's knead-it. It's a two part epoxy putty meant for repairing polymers and stuff (they also make a mutlipurpose and an aquatic one)....
Anyway, it's great for re-enforcing bits like that and it's strong as all hell. you can even use it to fabricate replacement bolts. i've actually done this, and it seems to work well enough.....

As for the strength of the part, i agree about it being flimsy. I tried to make sure mine wouldn't brake on me again, espacially since there's only actually 3 boltsholding the whole cluster in place.

I'll grab some pics of what i did. It's pretty straight forward tho.

    *edit*

Ok, without pulling off my grille etc, the part you mean is the bracket that attatches to here, yes?

If so, super-strangth araldite and Knead-it

if, on the other hand, you can't find the bracket part that broke off you can get a small steel L-Bracket at bunnings. (i would know, i work there)
From that, and the above two magic ingredients (and maybe a screw or two) you should be able to fabricate some approximation of what should be there.

Probably a little agricultural for some, but it beats getting a new light cluster and ditching an otherwise perfectly good one.

Again, that's just what i did. i'm sure others have thier own opinions as to the best course of action

Thanks for that. Yes I still have the broken bits. I know a lot of plastics now days won't work with glue. I would have thought a glue job would not be strong enough, but if you reckon it works I will give it a try.

well considering that all it's really holding up is a quater of a plastic light fitting, yeah. i'd say it's a good shot. hell, i'm yet to have any issues with my repair and i crushed my bumper against a small boulder. Still, using the epoxy putty stuff is a good idea, and the araldite has enough flex in it to cope with vibrations.
iit's been what, six months since i did that repair and no signs of fatigue. Not bad, all things considered

And yes, glue can't fix everything like it used to be able to... but aparrently the gods have seen fit to make landy plastic fixable. lucky us, right?

My mate just changed his today...for the life of me I cannot understand why they changed the design from the D2...with the D2 off comes a little plastic cover panel (horizontally mounted) and you reach in and pull the bulb with the light housing staying well and truly in place.... LR brains trust at work.

Mine is an 03 with no off roading, 150,000 on the dial. I would suggest to your mate that he strengthens his before they break, as it will happen.
