If I were you I'd be getting on top of the drive shaft coupling cracks first, before that lets go and becomes a nasty repair bill, or even worse, an accident.
All of these things can be done at home easily, depending on your mechanical confidence.
I have put some stop leak power steer fluid in my D2, worked a treat and is a cheaper option until you get some coin together.
Between this website, google and RAVE you should be able to find all the info you need.
Get a mechanic to price it up, then price the parts up through Rovacraft or some one similar and compare prices.
