Do d2s have that stupid eye mount with the plate through it that bolts to the coil seat?
changing the lower mounts to pins like on other coil spring rovers may help
G'day all, been a while since I've posted here. Have been lying low with the 4wding scene for a while until I finish my degree!
Anyway, question about shockies wearing out on the lower mount, causing knocking etc. as the bushes are eff'd in lifted D2's (2" lift on mine).
I've done them once before after I purchased the vehicle, I figured at the time that it was probably just caused by the fact the vehicle had just been around Australia and probably seen some pretty rough terrain. I replaced with Dobinson shocks and thought they would get another decent life.
Now after only 2 years the same thing has happened. So I guess, major question here is - is there anyway to mitigate this happening? Or to atleast slow the process? Not really keen on having to change them every 1 - 2 years.
Any experience will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Shamo.

Yeah, mine did it. One half of the bush came out. I suspect there may be a correlation between the lift and the amount of flex it gets treated to on a regular basis.cheers

prity sure coil hats are weleded on.
you could just weld some plate over the hole and drill the right sized hole in the center.
and a set of 'normal' coil shock turrets. so you can run a pin pin shocks. because it would be hard to find 1/2 eye to pin shocks.
Also would make it much easier to get bushes if you were in a remote location.
Ah righto. Don't really have time for all that, just going to get BOR to replace them.
In relation to shockie length, I have heard two conflicting theories... BOR say that the standard ones are the way to go because otherwise +2" ones will cause the springs to start popping out at full articulation. But speaking to suspension stuff they say that if i have a 2" I have to run +2" shocks. It's been so long since i've done anything on the car that I have completely forgotten the knowledge I had in relation to this haha and I can't remember what is in there now, I just know that they are dobinsons that came with the whole lift from suspension stuff. I haven't had any popping springs with that setup.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated as I need to know ASAP haha
