Alternator- Dash lit up like a Christmas Tree

Anyone had any experience in changing out a Alternator ??

I had to do a quick run to Coffs last week for a death in the family and on the way up my battery light came on on the dash shortly followed by almost every light on the dash coming on, sls on the bump stops with headlights flickering.

It ended up going into limp mode about 5k's south of kempsey and pulled over in kempsey and shut down (2 am).

Ended up diagnosing low voltage in a new battery and my alternator on the way out with nill output, after NRMA and I gave it a "Technical tap" and a jump start all good for the rest of the trip although no more battery light until this morning again so a tap again to get it going.

So has anyone had problems with their alternator ??? More so by where it is has anyone changed one out as I doubt I am capable of doing so, so its off to Modern Motors if I cannot find any info on it.

    Oh better ad its a 01 D2 TD5 with 320Ks.

    Cheers Dazza

    Alternator replacement

    Have a look at http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...r-removal.html.

Bit fiddly and tight and the oil lines are a bit of a PITA, but basically undo and do up, after taking out a lot of stuff (battery, ECU, battery box, intercooler hoses, EGR etc), radiator shroud, fan and put cardboard against the radiator to protect it. You'll need the spanner for the fan, ans also need a t50 torx bit for the bottom alternator bolt. If you have the EU3 engine you'll need to remove the EGR cooler.

Hi I replaced mine (02 D2) in about 6 hrs start to finish. You only need to remove the fan and shroud and idler pulley to get the alternator out. It is tight and the lower oil line is a real pain. But in saying that just take your time and its fairly easy. Just remember you'll need a 1/4 in drive uni joint for the positive cable on the alternator and a T50 torx bit for the bottom alternator bolt. Don't forget the in front of the radiator.
