Hi all.
My D2 transfer case is getting a bit loud and I'm looking at replacement options. Does anyone know if the viscous transfer case from a late RR classic will bolt onto a D2? I have a TD5 auto and I figure that, in theory, it should fit. All thoughts, comments welcome.![]()
The case will 'fit', but IMO it will be a little bit of a pain as you will have to modify tailshaft lengths, and some of the sensors aren't there IE the low range switch that alters throttle response when in low, and the CDL switch to cancel ABS when in centre difflock (With an actuator fitted, of course) The park brake will be compatible, as will be the mounting bracket locations etc as an LT230 can be swapped over relatively easily. It is definately doable, but some mods will need to be done.
As far as off road goes, I would say they are an improvement in some aspects, I never had any problem with mine and sort of wished when I went isuzu in the RRC that I had kept it.

Thanks Justin, it's good to get feedback on ideas. I once fitted a ZF 4 speed auto with viscous centre to a 2 door Rangie and really enjoyed the shooth, quieter running. It was all very straight forward, so am thinking an RR viscous transfer case into a D2 that is already auto should similarly be possible. I have a 2001 TD5 S, which I don't think has a centre diff lock? (cripes, embarrasing if it does!). The throttle response switch is an interesting point I hadn't thought of (classic RRs don't have them). Lots of food for thought.
