Steering Wheel Control Retrofit - Newbie

I stumbled on a couple of posts where members mentioned retrofitting steering wheel controls.

I have a 2002 01MY Disco2 V8 with Eurovox 5870R and 6 disc changer midline audio (i have the little speakers in the A post trim) but no steering wheel controls.

Is this something I can retrofit with this head unit? Any advice appreciated.

Being a midline spec you'll have the wiring harness from the rotary coupler to the back of the head unit. I couldn't tell you with any certainty if that particular eurovox supported the steering remote, but I suspect not.

The factory head unit in mine wouldn't play CDs so was replaced, but it didn't have changer support.

Certainly can be done. You will need to obtain a Steering Wheel Remote & a Remote Control Interface.
Remove steering wheel airbag, and then steering wheel. Make a template & cut opening in LHS of steering wheel & fit SWR. Wiring connection is in position. Connect lead from SWR.
Install SWI, as per supplied instructions for your model radio.

Before removing SRS disconnect battery & leave for 30 minutes before starting- as per RAVE

The main issue is whether the factory midline headunit has support for remote control, rather than whether the steering remote can be fitted.

RAVE recommends waiting for 10 minutes before working on the SRS system.

Thanks for the information - Oh and I transposed numbers on the stereo model - it's a 5780R

Does anyone out there know if it can take steering wheel controls? Thanks so much!

No. Not supported as far as I can tell.

I've attached the wiring diagrams for the Eurovox 5000 series which I managed to find on archive.org. The 5780R is shown on page two and doesn't have the remote pin.

The 5980 was the only model in that 5000 series that had a remote input.

    cheers
