    Small birds? What rot!

OT, I hope that you were leg-pulling.

TBH I'm not sure that it's a joke. The installer managed to crack the bottom of the screen on his second attempt, so I don't have a huge amount of faith in the strength of the screen. I was so over WOB by the time this happened I let it go, main due to the fact it was at the very bottom edge and not visible unless you looked. It gives me a good excuse to go back to the Insurance company at some point and get a pilkington screen fitted by someone who knows what they are doing.

The rave manual instructions don't require the bonnet/hood to be removed but I imagine this would prevent the plastic cowl plenum being damaged, Insist on them removing the hood first!

x2. You will need the bonnet off.

It is doable with the bonnet on, but you have to be very gentle and careful with the plenum. Neither are traits of your typical windscreen fitter.

Sounds innocuous enough. However, I'm not sure that reading this actually prepares you for the reality, as anyone who has attempted to refit the old trims will no doubt affirm.

I had a good experience with O'Briens Glass - after being told by my insurance company over the phone that there was no way they were going to pay for a genuine Pilkington Opti-kool windscreen, O'B told me they had it in writing to fit the genuine.
First time it went in they found a bad scuff on the new screen (fortunately before they removed the old one) and so couldn't fit it...turned ut it was the last one LR Aus had in stock so had to wait for a new one to come from the UK.
Once it arrived & was fitted (with new trims) all great until next time it rained & I got water dripping off the interior mirror! Contacted O'B & they fixed it no questions.
Glad I got excess-free glass cover on my car insurance!

When I first picked up my D2 from the dealer, it had a new windscreen fitted and they had somehow damaged the central locking receiver, so the buttons would not open it. They eventually fixed it before we left with the vehicle.

Only doing the honorable thing, Paul, to ensure that the fitter has been given every chance to do the job properly. If the fitter still breaks things, his employer is to blame for failing to provide adequate instruction.

And with a fair experience with toughened glass, sorry, but the comment you make is laughable. The shelling of toughened glass is operator error - even laminated toughened glass.

    Cheers

    NOVUS Canberra - Great

    All,

Thanks for all the advice. I rang around, used all the background info from here to ask the right questions. A couple of wndscreen shops including WOB provided BS answers. This is always a problem, sales vs delivery - and with more informed customers (courtesy of the web), they will find their business moving to more niche customer focussed businesses. Hence my post.

However I settled on Novus ...after a week to source an aftermarket screen with heating (I do live in Canberra and fish the mountain streams!).

They arrived pleasantly ahead of time in two utes. I had just finished photograohing. However they showed me some scratches that I hadn't picked up. I watched while they replaced the screen in 1 hour (got a new top moulding as well) at my house.

They were courteous and professional, in answering all my questions ..indeed they had read the AURLO posts before arriving and allowed more time. The job is very good!

They're a franchise and never will I have a go at "two guys in 2 utes" running a business ....Novus Canberra have my recommendation and so good to look through a no cracked, pock marked 11 year old screen!

    Thanks to all
