Dels lever retains the standard closed back so avoids these problems.
tbh if you are in that much water that it is coming up through the transmission tunnel it will also be pouring through the doors.

    True, true....
With my ...ahem....Toyota Surf, I have had it in water over the bonnet and not one drop gets into the cabin.....but it does have double door seals.....and door drain seals....and thats a 1996 model....

cant work out why our doorseals have those two cutouts in the bottom....let the water out? or let it in?

It would be nice if that were the case.

I rarely do water crossing any deeper than mid wheel depth, and hadn't been through a ford for months when I swapped to the solid backed lever. When I lifted the console the foam pad was water stained and even wet in places. There was also a substantial amount of dust under the console. The water entry I was getting into the back of the lever was from normal wet weather road driving.

Urban Panzer posted pics of what happens with the open back levers here: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ml#post1661301

As UP comments the water level only needs to be sill deep to get substantial amounts of water up into the back of the lever.

I know some people enjoy flooding the interior, but I try to avoid it where possible.

    cheers
    Paul
