    Ashcroft CDL

So, according to my VIN my Disco has the CDL internals and only needs the cable to sort the rest...

The Ashcroft site requires a serial number to make the purchase. I know where it is, but couldn't see it when I was under it...

Is there any way around this?

Also, Will a mechanic be happy to install it? I'd do it myself but I'm not exactly... Well... You know. Haha

Mayge your Hand brake cable is stopping you seeing it clearly, push it up out of the way, that's it it is at thew rear below the filler plug area. (Hand Brake cables also sometimes hide the oil filler nut from view)
If it is on the side then use a mirror.
    regards, Mario

I just purchased an Ashcroft CDL kit, and they require the VIN. Look on the plate near the bonnet latch, or at the rego label.

Don't get the Ashcroft one , get dels (50) lever. It's a modded original lever which means its totally sealed underneath and same as factory original.

Do a search, his details are on here somewhere.....same price about too.

    Good well made kit.

    Cheers

X2 on that. Dels lever is virtually identical to the D2a factory lever, and is a far better choice than the Ashcroft design.

Apart from the similarity of the the lever, what makes Del's a far better choice than the Ashcroft?

The Ashcroft lever has an open frame, so you replace solid metal with a hole which opens into the transmission tunnel which gets covered by a rubber boot.

The open back lever allows more noise transmission into the cabin than standard, and there is greater potential for water and dust.

Dels lever retains the standard closed back so avoids these problems.

    Ok....

Dels lever is a factory lever modified to activate the cdl. Therefore it is as close to a factory lever as you can get without actually spending your life savings on one. The whole mechanism operates exactly the same as factory.
The lever is fully sealed in metal making it water proof(?) and the noise is the same as factory.

The Ashcroft lever, (a very good system by all means) is a whole new lever and base, the base being open and requiring a rubber boot to seal to the elements and the noise is transmitted through the opening more than the factory one.

I have dels lever myself and cannot fault it. it is well made.

The other thing is the pivot point on dels lever is at the level of the top of the console whereas the Ashcroft pivot is a bit lower. It's not a big deal but having had a copy of the Ashcroft installed previously I find the lever sits in a slightly better position with the cdl unlocked using Dels lever.

The noise level difference between the two is pretty obvious.

    Cheers
    Paul
