does look like a decent one - following up. thanks Yorkie

Im always a bit sceptical about gas conversions as it always seems to cause additional problems, but will consider it if i find one that i like and not write it off.

AndyW - wont be towing so the V8 should be sweet for my needs. Also i made contact with a guy (landy nut) who has a 2001 for sale, checking it out Sunday. But he said the TD5, he had 2 seem to shake at about 100kph. Not sure if it was just his.

thanks again all for the advice

    I've owned both V8 & TD5.

    Hi there,

My first Disco was a 2002 V8 which I thoroughly enjoyed, except for the fuel usage - around 18L/100km around town. The car was in top condition, almost immaculate, even though it had almost 170k on the clock by the time I sold it. Never had any issues with it and always serviced & maintained regularly. (I'm going to try and include a photo with this reply - if I can figure out how to attach a photo.)

Only one thing I hated and hence why I sold it - no CDL (Center Diff Lock) & also had 18 inch wheels which was difficult to find muddies to fit. Whilst I didn't do a whole lot of off-road driving initially, when I did, it didn't perform all that well due to no CDL and highway tyres. Plus, petrol engine in my opinion is not as good as diesel for off-road crawling or climbing. Hence the change to my current 2004 TD5 Town Classic.

I have to say I am loving the TD5 now, but to be fair, I have also done a lot of modifications & work to the TD5 than the V8, which was stock standard. I have since been to Vic. High Country and now planning on doing Simpson Desert in April. Yeah, it's a bit slower off the mark and I do miss the sweet V8 music, but would I go back? Absolutely No Way! My TD5 is also my daily driver.

By the way, I sold my 2002 V8 with 170k on the clock for $9500.00 so if you're going for something similar, you should spend no more than $10k - $12k for a good one. My 2002 V8 was in top condition as you can see in the photo. It was immaculate inside out and I'm not just saying that. I took REALLY good care of it and I ended up having 3 people wanting to buy it at the same time!

The V8 is a bit easier and cheaper to service but then again, the diesel is not that much harder or more expensive. I think it ultimately comes down to how you're going to use the vehicle. Since changing to the TD5 and doing all the modification work to it, I am now itching to go touring around and explore this great country of ours. Hope my 2 cents can help you in some way! And fingers crossed my photo works!

    Cheers.

    Ernie.

turns out no service history or books. So have passed on that one. Thanks again for the advice given.

Have a couple of others in VIC that I'm looking at also today/tomorrow.

    Just as well.
The Td5 mafia are legen- wait for it -dary.
The slow rumble of the trusty diesel, and the -whizzz- of the turbo spooling up is enough to strike fear into the hearts of regular diesel drivers, turbo or otherwise.
The unwavering squint of the drivers eyes, cold stares that only shift for the occasional glance towards the Coolant temperature or EGT gauge.
These are hard men, who relish the sound of the traction control buzz as their tyres slip (temporarily only, thanks to Landrovers clever traction control system) on the slippery remains of their foes.
Should you hear such a noise approaching, what should you do?
    Leave.
    Hide.
    Repeat.
For they may not catch you in a straight line (unless it's been chipped )
They may not have the rumble coveted by those who drives V8s.
    But they will find you.
They will enact most terrible things upon you.
They will make you pay for their nice new AMC cylinder head.
And you will rue the day you ever crossed the Td5 mafia.

    Anywho
Best of luck with your search OP

    Cheers

Can you tell I'm in a good mood?
Full day of 4WDing with the girlfriend and lots of cold beer afterwards can do that
I had two options, roll with it or counter it with some Td5 trolling.
Then I remembered who my opponent was
Now I just need to go buy a bunch of those "Calvin peeing" stickers and place them next to the V8 logos on some unsuspecting D2s
    Kidding.
I'd put grenade ones on 3L patrols
