koni heavy track shockers, yes or no

Hi all, the better half needs shockers on her D2 with ACE and SLS, standard hight, can anyone comment on what these shockers are like or recommend some others that would be good. The car is mainly on road use with occassional light off road and totally standard.

    thanx Matt

I am using Koni Raid 90 Shocks on a Defender and find them to be exceptional.

This article will tell you a bit about them they are expensive but worth it if you drive on dirt roads

The Heavy Track Raids are considerably more expensive than the Heavy Tracks. I've been looking at the Heavy Tracks as a possible replacement for the stock shocks on mine which are getting a bit tired.

The Koni product description claims that the Heavy Tracks are "all-road" shocks that

will deliver optimum road holding and comfort both on and offroad.
whereas the Heavy Track Raids are designed as a

...reliable high quality replacement performance parts for customers who seek a non sophisticated but effective product to do the jobs it's designed for; to finish in offroad rally raids.
According to the catalog Heavy Tracks are only be available to suit standard ride height (but can be used with SLS) whereas the Raids suit 0-30mm lift.

FWIW Paddock Spares in the UK list the Heavy Tracks at £76 each, while the Heavy Track Raids are £145 each.

    cheers

I have heavy track (80 series cruiser spec) in the front of my classic rangie and rate them highly.
I have similar gas charged konis in the rear of the same vehicle which are about 20 years old (older than the heavy track moniker). They still work perfectly. The only issue is one unthreaded it's rod from the head about 7 years back. I reassembled it with loctite and it's stayed together since.

Mate, I've never had the ones above, but I swear by bilstein. The ride is fantastic on road, the difference from standard is amazing. Off road is pretty good too.
See if there is anyone who lives close to you who has the shocks you like fitted to see what they are like.

    Cheers

I just bought the heavy tracks from Paddocks in the UK. They were $600 delivered for all 4 which was 1/2 price of buying here.

I've only had them in a couple of days so not sure how good they are yet.

Agree absolutely! Killed everything else (OEMs and 2 others) in the D2 on corrugations in the centre and acrossthe top, till I fitted Bilstiens.

All the others would start the TC chirping just before lunch - cooked!

Bilsteins would get through to around 3-4pm, and they were good year after year. D2 went with them still installed after at least 150K with possibly 50% of that on corrugations.

Bilsteins are going into the SVX when I kill the OEMs.

    Cheers

Were either of the "2 others" Koni Heavy Tracks?

If your vehicle is standard height, you would be stupid to purchase anything but Bilsteins! They are dirt cheap in standard height - around $500.00 delivered from the USA which is less than half of the price you'd pay for the +2" models!
