    Winch powering.

Evening ladies, gents, boys, girls, and others.
Finally wired up the winch tonight, and it works!
    Success!
    A few questions though.
What's the best way to run the cables through to the battery?
Currently they're kind of jammed under the headlight cavity cover, considering drilling a hole for them to pass through.
    Any other options?
Also, is there an easier way to mount the control box, the angled metal plate that is supposed to screw onto the bar isn't being much use
    Cheers

You mean there are other ways?

I just put plate under the control box and tech screwed to the bar.

On my old D1, I had the wiring coming up beside the radiator to the main battery, but it was a High Mount winch. As for the Defer, the bracket supplied for the control box with the TJM, was turfed and a different plate sourced and bolted to the upright post of the BBar.

ISTR I took the wiring for my old D2, across to the OS chassis rail and then up to the battery from there.

Don't forget to fit some sort of isolator switch though...

As for your control pack, a waterproof box on top of the wheel arch would be the ideal location.

Urban Panzer has a winch install on his site:

UP cut a hole in the plastic panel that seals the body to the radiator, which seems like a good solution, although running along the chassis is probably just as good.

Not sure about the location of the solenoid pack - seems to be a lot unnecessary cable run just to keep a waterproof unit dry.

    Thanks.

On my D1 I'm pretty sure the winch cables go under, then back up inside the engine bay next to the battery. I can check tonight if you want. Drilling a hole seems unnecessary, unless the D2 is quite different?

Edit: sounds like what camel_landy is suggesting...

I removed the solenoid pack from the large box and put it behind the grille, made a bracket for the remote plug and it's hidden in the slot of the grille. The cables run through holes drilled through the foam on the drivers side of the radiator. Runs up under the box (through the void underneath) and up the back and enters the box where the space for the battery cables is.

No pics sorry as it's all in a million bits at the panel beaters. Should come back even neater though.

My winch cables definitely just go down and across to the chassis, then up next to the battery.
