A lot of guys/gals on here have built their own rear bars, including me. Mine doesn't have a jerrycan holder, but fabricating and adding one would not be a problem. I'm hesitant to offer to build on for you as I'm in Sydney & freight might be a problem.
Other members closer may have the skills to fab one for you?
Not sure thats a lot of help...

Thats a lot of dough to carry 25 L of water. Not to mention the extra mass of steel being carted around all the time and the effect this will have on fuel consumption and wear and tear. There must be a more cost effective method of carrying water. Plastic drums inside the vehicle (10L, 20L 25L), plastic bladders that lie on the back floor, PVC pipe on roof rack, stainless steel underfloor tank, or as I do, 10L wine casks of water from the supermarket. These cost about $3, are portable, can be burned or re-used when emptied. When taken out of their card board box will fit anywhere.

But if you want to spend $1300 on a jerry can holder - go ahead.

    Hi Bronson,

Check this thread out. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/verandah/1...l-carrier.html - hope this works!

It's a rear bar with jerry holder for a D2 from APT Fabrications. Have a chat to Ben and see what he can do for you?

The rear bar looks pretty nice! I'm thinking about getting one for my 2004 TD5.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Ernie.

I built my own, using the basic plans from Slunnie on here.

It was modified a little, to suit my own tastes, but is basically the same. All up, including powder coating, it cost less than $500.

I only have very basic welding skills, but managed to get it to hold together. If you or a mate can weld, do it yourself, and save a packet.

Has anyone who has built a replacement rear bar managed to get the reverse parking sensors fitted to it? The off the shelf replacement rear bar available is too close to the body for the sensors - as a result the sensor are continually activated by the tow bar and spare wheel...

Those rear bars are pretty cheap - around $500.00 to $600.00ish. They're a steel replacement bar with the built in tow points and jack point. The one in the thread is being modified to have the spare wheel carriers.

    Yep, ME

When I built the bar, I had the holes drilled out for me. They are 27mm IIRC.

I specifically placed them in the same place as they are on the original, and I have never had a problem.

My bar is a little wider than the factory, to give me a bit more of a step, but the departure angle isnt affected, as the vertical width is less than original.

There is nothing in the way of my sensors at all. I can see thou, if you have a skinnier bar, then they may pick up on the tow ball or spare.

Ah nice. I purchased one of the Discovery 2 Heavy Duty Rear Bars (steel), the common one that you see around:

I drilled holes for the rear sensors, but the bar was not as wide on the horizontal plane (i.e. it did protrude as far back off the vehicle as the factory plastic units) - as such the sensors were too close to the vehicle body and were set off by items on the body.

All up I was a fan of the bar, but it wasn't good not having the working reverse sensors, and with them disconnected I just got a constant beep when reversing, so I reverted back to plastic.
