Thread: Auto stuck in 2nd or 3rd, lights on dash blinking

There has been a fault detected by the auto control unit and it has been put into Limp Home mode. Could be as simple as you moved the auto selector too fast, to the selector (xyz) switch being faulty, due to water ingress. Look up xyz switch in the search at the bottom of the page for more posts on this. Common problem. Lots of reasons why. Typically you will need to reset the auto control unit via the OBD to get rid of the flashing lights.

The transmission has gone into limp home mode. You will need to find out why.

Check the auto wiring harness where it crosses over the rear of the transmission. It rubs and can start to short out causing the ECU to become confused and go into LH mode or stick in gears etc. I had the same problem after I got mine and Justinc suggested that I check and lo and behold, it was worn. Seems to be a common problem.But easily sorted

Check your battery voltage and condition, this is often related to battery issues

If it is your xyz switch (transmission switch on passenger side of auto g'box ) a common cause is water dripping on it from the A/C drain right above it. In Singapore the humidity would guarantee bucket loads of water pouring over the switch. Many people extend/reroute the rubber drain tube

X2 check your battery/charge voltages.Can cause this problem,but as said by others could be something else,hope not.

Also check for oil in the ecu loom at the red plug which plugs into the BCU.

In my case a couple of months ago that appeared to trigger the transmission to go into limp home mode.

Cleaning the plug and resetting the fault codes using the Nanocom appears to have solved the problem.

Thanks guys for the wealth of input. Given it's my prime mover had to bring it to the mechanic who just called me with the verdict - the XYZ inhibitor switch has gone as some of you predicted. What blew me away is the cost of this damn switch - around $800!

The tip on the A/C drain is good as water dripping onto it sounds like a bad design but with a simple fix.
