replacing TD5 fuel filter - just me? or usual prob?

After replacing the fuel filter on my TD5, following the RAVE instructions, the next time I came to start it, it ran for a few seconds & then died.
After searching thru RAVE I came across the instructions for purging air from the injector rail. After running thru the process a couple of times alls fine
Is it just me? or something other new(ish) TD5 owners need to be aware of?
    Cheers,
    Alex

It is a little messy, but I always fill my new filter up to near the top with diesel before fitting it. This drastically reduces priming time. It's all good mate, I had the same issue first time I did it. Fill your new filter with diesel first and you will be done in no time.

    Dont prefill it...

wipe the seal, whip it on and run the purging cycle.

Hi Dave - I don't doubt there is a good reason for a full purge - any chance of an explanation? Cheers

prefilling the filter increases the chance that something is going to go in there thats going to be after the filtering medium if its after the filtering medium and it gets into an injector....

purging a td5 can take less time than it takes you to carefully fill the filter, manouver it into place without spilling it, fail at that, get it on then clean up the mess.

Purging invovles putting on your empty filter and turning the key on without cranking (with the window down) listening for fuel pump to start up and run a cycle - which is like 20 seconds or something. When fuel pump stops, turn key off and then on again. Repeat about half a dozen times. This slowly fills your filter and purges the air. Works perfect every time.

I do pretty much the same, and I was trying to find where I seen this documented. You can hear the noise of the pump change when you've purged the air. I've always found the d2 starts as normal - without the need for any throttle - if you do it this way.

The full purge is designed for occasions when the system has been sucking air like running out of fuel.
