Sounds like oil pump bolt.
Plenty on here.
G'day Guys,
I did a few search's but I come up with nothing, So sorry if Im repeating another thread.
Tonight when I ducked up the shops and back when I was almost back to my house the oil light came on, a solid red, no fluctuating just solid on, I slowly drove the last distance and pulled into the drive.
Checked oil, Just over full (which it has been since oil change) check for any leaks (none more than normal) re-start ....... Light still on, I obviously cut engine as quick as I could but, I have a feeling it sounded slightly different than normal (but I maybe just hearing things?).
Questions: What checks should I do to check if I have oil pressure? Do the oil pumps fail? How long can you run them before doing major damage if it does have no oil pressure? is there a common fault with these symptoms in the TD5? Do Oil pressure switchs fail?
Cheers and thanks in advance.
Jeremy
Sounds like oil pump bolt.
Plenty on here.
Could be a faulty pressure switch also. I'd check that first. Then progress to the oil pump.

Oil pump failure is very uncommon. What is less uncommon is the bolt which retains the drive sprocket on the oil pump.

Oil pump failure would be very last on the list of suspects.

with mine the bolt had been loctited but the end of the pump shaft drive key broke, because it was still intack the friction between the bolt and drive gear allowed enough oil flow to causee no damage. my engine fail shortly after due to the flex pipe under the turbo (water) failing

G'day guys,
thanks for your comments, I have not had a chance to check anything today but I purchased a new oil pump bolt and sump gasget anyway and will replace it anyway! I will also check the switch to make sure first and let you all know the outcome.
Whats the best way to test the oil presure switch?
Cheers
Buy some loctite as well. IF it's the bolt, it doesn't break so much as fall out.
OK Guys, pulled the sump off tonight and found the bolt still in but only about 4 threads before falling off!!! See pics!!
It looks like the bolt alowed the gear enough movment to drop off the
keyway and therefor stop pumping oil? So I guess im lucky it did not come off all togeather.
My question is now, is it just a matter of getting the gear back on the keyway and fitting the NEW BOLT with locktight?? or is it not that easy?
Maybe a member here had had the same thing happen and can advise how they got it back togeather?
Cheers and thanks in advance.

After doing some more goodle research it seems that there has been plenty of damage done to engines that have driven a similar time that I did???
Any suggestions on what to check and where to go from here?
Also I have read many posst about people complaining to Landrover for compensation and they seem to end with no answer about if landrover did do anything?? Does anyone know whats happened in some of these cases?
Cheers
This happened to mine, I decided to change the bottom end barings while the sump was off,
If I was you I would take off one of the Conrod caps and see if the bottom end baring is dry or has a nice oily film, which u hope it is...
Mine was oily but I still changed it, after changing it my oil pressure was higher....
How many km's do u have on ur disco?
