I think they are a waste. I dont think that application needs more oil, its more like a diff where the oil stays relatively clean rather than an engine where oil gets contaminated quickly. They also dont run hot... like a diff and not like an engine.

More oil can't hurt, and the LT230 seems to run really hot, maybe as it's tucked up behind the engine and g/box with an exhaust or two going by.

Someone on here logged some temps and it was a bit of a

I dont think it causes any problems. You're paying to fix nothing and to not have a performance increase. Increased capacity doesn't hurt, but I doubt very much in that application there is any real benefit either.

Laser thermometer indicates mine is running at 91 degrees C on a hot day
I have one of the extended sumps so not sure what it would be doing if it didn't have one.

    Thanks for all the replies

We reconditioned the boys D1 Tdi transfer case not long after we bought it at 230k it showed signs of burnt oil deposits probably due to leaks and low oil.
Quality oil at the right intervals and regular level checks, I keep the cooler on the lower end of the wish list
    Thanks

I think its a pretty dam good investment, ( In fact I'd say mandatory on a Puma which has less oil capacity because its mounted on an angle. )

More oil capacity and better cooling is always good if your touring , esp if your doing any towing, just as important as high quality oils.

Ive got no backlash after 175.000 klm = no intermediate wear & no center diff slop. the extended LT230 sump has to be playing a part there.
