Careful though, that bit of cardboard may blow the budget out even further......

Now is one of those times when I really wish I could pick if you were being serious or not :D
No, I haven't measured the piece of electrical tape however I inspected all the hoses when I had the acoustic cover off last week, including checking the fixings to make sure they were securely attached and they were. Even the hard plastic coolant line :p
I will pay particular attention to it when I next stick my head under the bonnet.
I know for a fact it's had a fair schwack of the hoses replaced, both under my ownership and the POs, but some new coolant hoses will have to go on the list, along with some silicone turbo hoses maybe....
Thanks for the input, it's a steep learning curve but at least I'm learning.
serious... (and in order of priority)
Install the cardboard
remove the fan+VC (The VC is probably fine its the hub bearing thats gone)
remove the pully
replace the timing cover fan hub bearing
Double check ALL the serpentine moved bits for play/noise
Triple check the harmonic balancer.
check and replace the top cooling system hose/outlet housing
Not serious...
the electrical tape.
This is how I did mine, had a friend help... Happy to be corrected.
Don't forget that there's a circlip holding the bearing in
Remove the old bearing from the shaft
Place shaft in freezer, new bearing in the sun
Install new bearing on shaft, place shaft and bearing in freezer for a few hours
Clean the bearing hole, make sure there are no lips or nicks on the outer edge
Use friend with heat gun to heat hole and surrounding metal
Grab shaft and bearing from freezer, QUICKLY slide into hole, it'll warm and grip
Reinstall Circlip, reassemble

Yorkie, May all your Viscous fan hubs multiply and chop you to death by 1000cuts and may Loctite be liberally spread on every bolt in your car.Quote:
New fan about $250 aftermarket, new idler pulley about $40, new tension pulley $110 and new belt for good measure.
Sure philipA could pop out and get that fan off in a jiffy. ;)
Although it should be said my home made tool mark 2 is now well seasoned and ready for Lump hammer mark 1 5 lb.
It took me a total of 2 hours to get the whole thing back together and I made sure I got a wire brush to banish all Loctite from the pulley hub, and included anti seize on the the threads.
Regards Philip A
sorry, could not resist. :)
Muppet, I bought a few spare stickers from Blknight.au on the initial run and considering your present circumstances and Club status I have just put your name on one. Will post it gratis in the next few days.
Slunnie is well experienced in all things Landy but sounds a bit dear - "a trailer load of beer" :o :D
I must introduce you to another guy in Orange who may be able to assist you with some advice and spannering on the odd occassion.
I hope you're back on the road soon without too many unwanted surprises.
