No, it was a traditional two drawer setup.

I'm heading in the same direction as you ie two stand alone shelves on runners/slides.

I did consider cutting most of the sides and top off my prior system, but it seemed a waste of a good set of full drawers, so I sold them off and am still investigating the best type of runners. I want to be able to use the bases for carrying boxes of tools etc for day to day work, then when going away, load up the fridge on one slide and recovery and camping gear etc boxes on the other.
I haven't decided on the method of fixing to the LR tie downs, but eyelets of some kind and shackles is the way to go for easy removal, whilst being secure when fitted.

For my drawer set up, I used some fabricated hooks that slide into the tie down points near the door, and use 2 turnbuckles set up high on the rear of the unit to pull it down and back.
It has proven to be very solid so far, and I have been on some pretty rough terrain

I only did it this way as I reused my drawers that I made for the D1, and this is my 4th version and I am more or less happy with them.

Your set up looks great by the way, and the good thing about building them yourself is that you can change, adapt and rebuild when you want to alter something.

I'm thinking of something like these slides - they are rated to 100kg which should be plenty for a 50l fridge I think and could take a piece of ply for the tray.

As they are side mounted I would need to screw some extra wood for the sides to attach to which might provide some points to secure onto the tie downs - some over centre fastners might then work to attach the removal part.

The hooks at the front and turnbuckles sounds like a nice way of securing them

My personal opinion with these drawer slides is that due to the short run of them, due to the limited space in the back of the D2, 100kg is a bit overkill, but it is definately better to over engineer, my slides are 60kg and I have never had an issue.
Just make sure that the whole unit is ancored well, as you dont want it tipping forward with anything like 100kg on it.

Based on my previous builds, I have settled on an enclosed fridge section to the left and 2 drawers on top of one another. That way you can stack on top of the fridge and access it without having to rearrange.

That is just my rundown on it, I am sure other will have different needs and opinions.

It works well and is very solid.

It is quite easy to remove the unit, but I just leave it in place and use the roof rack for anything that doesnt fit

I built my drawers to stay in the D2, 2 x drawers on the base, fridge on the left and a top shelf and centre divide to keep all the gear off the fridge etc, hope it helps

When I made a set of drawers for my D2, i ended up removing the front tie down points, then made the drawer to suit the location of tie down points.
From there I bolted the front of the drawers into the holes from the now removed tie down points.
The rear of the drawers are then attached to the existing tie down points via turn buckles.
The bolt the removed tie downs from the front some where on the top of the drawers as tie down points for the fridge.

Looks good - might also be worth checking Häfele - INDEX COUNTRY SELECTOR - their site is a bit complicated to navigate but section 10.92 and associated pages (I think in the Trade rather than the Home section?) will provide some options.
