I remember years ago Ben Dark had a set up in his statesman that was a pot with a coiled tube running around the inside or outside that instead of coolant running directly to the heater went through the tube and back to the engine,he used to cook meals in it while he was travelling, seemed to work well.

A few years ago I cooked too many crepes for breakfast before leaving on a VicHigh trip. Not wanting to waste them, I wrapped the extras in Alfoil and placed them strategically around the engine bay, not to cook but just to keep them warm.
The first couple were enjoyed with a coffee when we met up with the other trip participants about 2 hrs later. However, I forgot about the remaining ones until four days later ...................... needless to say they were a tad overdone and were not fit for human (or animal) consumption.
    Lesson learnt.
