Yes, having been there a number of times, it's one of the few places in the world where you have to chew the air first before breathing it in.

    Cat removal.

drive by test-cat generates lots of heat, standing on the road with a laser temperature devise or those magic glasses with most cars is easy to detect if the cats disconected.

it been planned to set up roadside testing like speed cameras, and these do existbut ofthen most modern cars will pass a radside test without the cat operating-its intension is to work low speeds and medium loads hyway cruise it does very little.

most of these organised ideas are so busy with the work they already have that they dont need to round up more work/fines.they do focus on roadworthy inspections car modifiers and used car dealers.

my 89 range-93 3.5 disco-94 3.9 disco has no cat and would most roadside operators know about how it works.what occurs is that you get pulled over and you get a defect for any silly item-A mates son got loose battery in his GTR skyline-then they tick the box on the form that it must be inspected at [in newcastle] heavy vehicle check station.

spent months of the road being rebuilt to original.

    CAT replacement.
new petrol engine now have an O2 sencor to check if the cat is operating.
these have been around for some time in some vehicles.had a few visits to the benz dealer and seen full exhaust and sencors being replace that after being fitted with nongenuine parts they loose performance.I found this with some older vehicles and even the genuine replacment wont match the car as the parts become superceeded parts.

interested in how light diesel are going to go.most of these have no exhaust sencors.I picked up an isuzu fire truck this week for a service and it limped home up the street before stopping with beepers and flashing warnings.

Removing will cut down the floor temps as well as reducing heat effects on the DC joint of the front tailshaft. There's only pre cat O2 sensors so there's no effect on the ECU. My 4.6 on 4.0 ECU catless passes tests, done for the conversion and didn't even check for them.
