    Strange sequence of faults

Today, my 2003 TD5 Auto experienced a strange sequence of faults. It started when I pulled out from a shopping mall car park.

    1. It started with flashing both M & S lights, along with blinking D on the dashboard. I have found many posts discussing this, but not with the following sequence of events.
    2. When I tried to switch off the car, it wouldn't switch off. I put the gear level in P and turn the ignition key off, the engine is still running. That's very strange.
    3. While engine still running, I tried to put the car in D again (with hand brake on), the engine stopped.
    4. I could start the engine as normal, and drive. However, M&S still flashing.
    5. When I arrived home, I found that break light is permanently on, no matter the gear position, engine on/off, hand brake on/off, brake pedal pressed or not.

I am at a loss to determine what caused all this -- or even whether this is caused by more than one problem.

Brake light is still on, and I suspect the battery will be dead soon and I won't be able to start the car thereafter.

Can anyone shed some light with this situation?

    Thanks in advance.

Pull out light fuse to prevent battery dying.

Check the brake light switch, and also have a look at the fuse box in the divers footwell. Melbourne has had it's first rain in a while so it's possible you have had a water leak into the back of the fuse box.

    cheers

Yes, I have done that last night. So, at least battery is not draining.
