Reclining knob
The centre of the plastic hand wheel to manually adjust the angle of my drivers seat just fell apart. (2002 D2). I plan to make up a steel surround for the shaft (to reduce the leverage on the centre of the plastic knob) and epoxy it all back together. I do not see any point in buying a new one as the design and material used are both rubbish.
Before I make my typical bodgy mess, I was just wondering if anyone has a better idea?

Recliner knob repair
Hi
what you can do is make your steel wheel up (Knurl the outer rim)
then make a plaster mould of the broken outer wheel
you'll have to superglue it back together first
then half fill your plaster mould with Plasti Bond
(Small tubes available from Bunnings)
then insert your metal upgrade get it as square as you can
just let it set (around 20 minutes is enough)
break of the plaster off and you have a new stronger wheel
paint it the colour of your choice.
try it .
i have and it works
Paul.

Yes they are a lousy weak design.
They are in 2 parts, the cover snaps onto the inner part which is the one you are referring to.
They are available as 2 seperate items as spares, but I believe they are a little hard to find.
I fixed mine by epoxying a steel insert into the failed part and filling it with Steel Epoxy (Repco) great stuff.
Then I pressed it into place on the shaft. Sets fast,so be quick!
It moulds itself to the shaft and sets well.
I have mine still in place after 15 months or so.

They are crap. Mine lasted 10 years. Just fitted two second hand ones at $20 each.
