Fitting Firestone Airbags
I was fitting Firestone airbags (from USA)to my 04 disco and a bit worried about boltheads sticking up from bottom of rear spring mount. Nothing in kit for the bottom only seats for inside top of spring. Is this OK or should i fabricate a flat surface to fit in the bottom to give the airbag something flat to sit on. Anyone had this problem or is it OK?

Fitting Firestone Airbags
Hi Richard
I thought the same when fitting mine so I cut a piece of thick rubber that I had lying around (about 4mm thick) and put that over the bolt. They've been in for about 2 yrs now with no issues.
Hope that helps!
Cheers

X 2 with the rubber cover. They are tough but I dont think they would like rubbing like that. The 1s I fitted to the defer had a poly spacer for the bottom, but they were for 2" raised.

I used a piece of white plastic cutting board thicker than the thickness of the bolt heads. Cut it to shape and cut a hole for the bolt heads. 20,000 kms later including 14,000 towing a camper to the Kimberley and back along some rough roads and all good.
I also put the air valves just above the rear step, sideways under the door hinge. Works well. Had to take the rear bumper off iirc, but wasn't a big job. Keeps them out of the way and clean, but still easily accessible.

I wouldn't worry too much. I have had Polyairs on my RRC for at least 10 years with nothing on the bolts. Still going strong and no appreciable wear when I checked them last year.
