Doing better than me mate, I'd have put it in upside down and back-to-front!
You'll be getting an Easter present from me, I'll order a Td5 and auto service kit from you.
Should buy some chocolate :D

Oh the joys, I managed to pull the trans and transfer case assembly just far back enough to gain access to the rear of the engine:) and unbolted every thing without a problem:)
On examining the :censored: thin tin drive plate that Land Rover engineered for the V8, I noticed that it is already showing signs of cracking at the attaching bolt holes .:wallbash:
Do I have one in stock to replace, of course not:mad:.
So there it stands now on the ramps, transmission jack holding the assembly up and I can go no further until new week when the new drive plates arrive.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im...2013/03/42.jpg Idea I 'll pinch one of Heather's sauce pans, cut the the bottom off , cut out a circle in the middle and drill some holes and presto I have a drive plate of better quality then what Land Rover provides:angel:
Unfortunately the3 above schematic from microcat is very misleading.
There is no way the order they show the parts would work. They just wont fit and bolt up!
The Spigot flywheel alignment shown as number 12 in above diagram actually fits directly to the end of the crank case. It has a dowell hole that matches the dowell on the end of the crank shaft. Then the Flywheel/ring gear assembly does fit on next, there is a dowell hole on the flywheel ring gear that correctly aligns the spigot flywheel alignment part.
Is is where I went wrong on my fitment , as my dowell on the spigot flywheel alignment part was missing, so this is were I just bolted the 4 bolts up to it, this then of course throws out the tooth sequence on the flywheel and crank angle sensor. So as Beeutey suggested, i was either 90 ,180 or 270 degrees out depending on how many bolts I was out on fitting the flywheel. Not that I had seen this dowell hole, I just need to align the flywheel to correspond to the missing dowell location.
This should synchronise everything again to spark on the correct cylinder.
 I cant wait until Wednesday to get the drive plate
Hi Beeutey,
Ah, yes it is but looky here, Microcat In the Discovery 2 vehicle 1998 -2004 selection even with my Vin numbered in it shows the same picture. The TD5 is different and it shows that, but the V8 D2 it is wrong
as that found in the D1 RRC. see bottom pic of screen shot of Microcat disco2
So it seems Microcat just used a generic picture in this version.
cheers, Mario
Ps, To confuse things even more I found an online Rave PDF for Discovery 2 that shows there are 2 different versions of flywheel fit up, my copy of Rave only shows the early set for Discovery2.
there is an early version and a later version.
This is a pic from online Rave the flywheel set upon the right is what I have, the one on the left is one on my Rave edition.

I Just checked the RAVE cd for Range Rover P38 and in the engine section for years '99 on it actually shows the fitting sequence on the parts. Some thing the RAVE for D2 doesn't. This is the setup I have. and on the flywhhel it shows the hole for the dowell line up. Which I had missing, so hence the flywheel was out by X amount of degrees regards, Mario

What fixed the problem Mario?
Cheers
Hi Ozscott, from memory refitting a dowell that was missing, then fitting the plate to locate on the dowell corrected the crank angle sensor to function correctly.
Regards Mario
Well done Mario. At least you have helped all the other petrol people to refit their gearboxes correctly.
I have always known that these cars turn men into mechanics
Regards, Nick
It's only been 3 years since I posted this LOL:D
PS I didn't lose that dowell in the first place some other "mechanic who worked on it before I bought the vehicle is too blame. It is there to ensure that the flywheel lines up correctly so the tooth count is read correctly by the crank angle sensor.
