Does a Disco II go into hibernate mode?
My D2 is not my daily driver so it may sit for 2 > 3 weeks between runs. In those instances i find that i cannot activate the central locking with the usual button press on the key fob. Yes! yes - new battery in the key fob and new cranking battery. Security lamp on the dash is happy blinking away nothing out of the ordinary so telling me the battery is apparently healthy. Only way in (i haven't memorised the EKA code - has anyone?) is to use the key to open the door (not before warning bystanders that the alarm will activate) quickly slam it shut to silence the alarm lock it with the key fob and then it'll open with the usual button press on the key fob. Park it for a week and there's no problems. I'm aware that there parasitic drain from the battery but i don't think that this is the issue 'cos the engine cranks real well and starts easily.

To open the car, I put the key into he door and turn it to unlock it, and wake it up. I then relock it again so tat I can unlock it with the remote hitch disarms he alarm.

There are two bulletins covering the BCU sleep issues.

The first specifically relates to key unlock issues. The TB is dated August 2001 and applies to all vehicles built up to VIN 1A729415. The problem described is caused by RF interference over an extended period, which results in the BCU going to sleep. The solution listed in the bulletin is to replace the RF receiver with pn# YWY000080 for 433mhz and YWY000090 for 315Mhz systems.

The second TB (Service action Bulletin A/B/D220 which can be found on the RAVE CD) addresses battery drain problems which prevent the vehicle starting. It seems that for a short period after the BCU was updated the configuration used was incorrect so the existing BCU needed to be reconfigured using a specific TestBook disc. If your power windows stop working within 45 seconds of turning the ignition off the reconfiguration has already been done. This only applied to vehicles in the range VIN YA274671 to YA290737 (built between March and June 2000).

Checking Microcat there are 3 revisions of the BCU:

YWC106350 --- upto YA267275
YWC000010 YA267276 to 1A708514
YWC000310 1A708515 onwards (This is also the current replacement part for all VINs)

The YWY000080 receivers seem to be pretty common on eBay as they were fitted to a MG ZT's and Rover 75's as well as the D2. Used ones go for around £10 +postage.
