A nanocom will give you a hundred times the functionality for less than twice the price.
G, day all just wanted to know if anybody has used or knows anything in regards to ABS Amigo. As I have the three amigos lit up
(The ABS Amigo is a small portable handheld device that enables the user to reset the Discovery II Anti Lock Brake System (ABS) computer. The ABS amigo is designed for resolving the commonly occurring "Three Amigos" dash board lights. The device is powered solely by the cars own OBDII interface port and requires no further user interaction. Once the device is plugged into the OBDII port, communication is established with the ABS and the reset commands are sent out automatically.)
As they are only $200. And they come from the good old USA and I have read a few good reports about people using them! But don’t want to waste my money. I know it only resets and does not fix the problem but will give you the codes in regards to the problem
Cheers Pat

2002 D2 4.6L V8 Auto SLS+2" ACE CDL Truetrac(F) Nanocom(V8 only)

Waste of money.
Do you know what is causing the fault.
Something as cheap as $15 could solve the problem more permanently (if not permanently) than this device.
If you really want a toy get a nanocom
Regards
Andrew
ABS amigo is a one trick pony. As biggin points out for a couple of hundred more you can buy yourself a tool that will allow you to work on almost every* ECU on the D2.
If you have any plans to keep the D2 and do DIY then a diagnostic tool like a Nanocom, Hawkeye or Lynx is indispensable. The Nanocom isn't perfect but it has a number of features that make it stand out from the pack.
As Andrew notes you can potentially solve the Amigos with a very cheap modification, but this is only true if the fault is related to one particular component failure, and you really need a diagnostic tool to check this.
Obviously the ABS Amigo will do what it claims but for the money I'd be carefully weighing up the benefits of a comprehensive diagnostic tool vs the extra $200 spend.

* Hella Cruise Control on the V8 is not accessible at this point
Thanks again .you guys are realy helpfull , will check out the tools mentioned as i have not heard of them and live about 300Ks south of Perth ( nobody wants to touch a Disco in Busselton wa ) and dont know any other Disco owners. i have a cheap diagnostic tool and it gave me codes P1590 and 0125 . i recently changed rear disks and pads .and replaced radiator and water pump ?
Again A big Thanks Pat
Hi Pat,
The P1590 is an engine ECU fault relating to the ABS Rough road signal. Unfortunately the solution to this is to check the SLABS ECU for fault codes, and you need a diagnostic tool that will speak to the D2 ecus to do this.
P0125 is "Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control". Perhaps some of the V8 guru's will step up and offer some advice on this?
cheers

Let's no forget the guy who came up with the OPTION B fix only used a ABS AMIGO to scan diagnose and clear his faults . Pat I have two D2's and so far an ABS AMIGO is the only diagnostic tool I have needed in 8 years. There great little bits of gear . Mine has paid for itself twice on both cars.
Thanks Paul , not sure what a slabs ecu is . will look into it and hopefully some one out there can let me know Cheers
Cheers BIG O nice too know it works it is about half the price of the others ( I know it is a cheep option but sometimes you gotta roll that way. I would love a full on diagnostic tool like a( Nanocom, Hawkeye or lynx but thats gotta wait awhile ) having been on workers comp for about a year due to a bad work accident and lost a bucket load of cash ,so once again Thanks
The D2 uses a single ECU to control both the Self Leveling Suspension and the ABS. The ECU is generally referred to as the SLABS ECU.
cheersIn addition to controlling the brake related functions, the SLABS ECU:
- Controls the operation of the self levelling suspension (SLS) system (where fitted).
- On V8 models, outputs a rough road signal to the ECM when traversing rough terrain.
- Outputs a vehicle speed signal.
