    Window Woes

My passenger window went down and won't go up. Even though it is at the bottom it still wants to go down further. I did a search and could only find problems with spot welds breaking and nylon wheels also breaking. Both of these are ok.

What has happened is the half moon gear has come out of the motor gear.

My question is this. What or how is the glass limited on the down (and up for that matter) stroke? When it gets to the bottom what stops the motor?

I re-engaged the gear and the window went up ok. When I lowered it, same thing. It just kept going until the half moon gear came out, and then it is making horrible noises if I hold the switch.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    From memory nothing.

Time for a new regulator I'd say. Had the same happen on my D2a and twice on the D1. All use the same units. Check the teeth for wear and also the rollers in the slide. I couldn't have repaired mine being where I live but you should possibly be able to.

What I need to know is what limits it. I have a theory that when it gets to the end of its stroke, currant load on the motor would rise and the BCU would sense this and shut off. Can anyone confirm this?

What I suspect has happened with mine is the half moon gear has worn right at the end, and this is allowing it to just come out. If this is the case I could fix this with the welder.

I don't want to waste time trying if it could be another problem, but if anyone can confirm my theory above I will give it a try.

You are more than welcome to pull apart one of the windows on the D1 I have sitting at home if you think it will help you. Give me a call.

All fixed. I had a better look and found a lot of play in the half moon gear pivot. This was allowing the motor drive gear to ride up and over the last tooth on the half moon.

I removed the rivet and then welded a piece of 6mm steel with a hole drilled in it to match a half inch bolt. I then cut the bolt to length and peened it over. All play removed, and will never come back.

I then put a dob of weld onto the end of the half moon gear..
