Not a job to be done after a few beers in old mates shed with some bricks and half a repco tool kit, but you know that
Have a search for monkiefone (spelling?) who did it, but it's quite a task.

Not something to be approached lightly. You need to change the whole wiring loom, the ECU, the radiator just to start with.

Cheapest way would be to buy a written off auto and make one good one from the 2.

Honestly if I was going to hand over the dosh for an auto into manual, I'd want to make sure it was a bloody perfect ZF going in, which would make me hesitant about getting one from a write-off, unless it was tested and found to be flawless.

OP, I've briefly considered doing it when my auto eventually dies.
I stopped counting at 6, by my very rough estimates.

True, but if you've put in lots of effort into setting up your vehicle exactly the way you want it, right down to the little things then for the sake of a gearbox I certainly wouldn't swap.
But, that's certainly one way to do it.
From memory you can get a reco'd ZF and TC from Ashcrofts for something like a smidge over 3k landed. That's not chump change, but it's not stupidly expensive either. If you're handy on the spanners then that helps.
It all comes down to how much of the folding stuff you're prepared to hand over.
And lets face it, if you can afford to and it makes you happy, why not

There comes a point where the wallet must overrule the heart though. Spending $15k to achieve something that already exists out there for $5k is fine so long as you understand that the extra $10k is something that your bank account will never see again.

Otherwise you'll end like up like that fool who has been trying to sell his cryogenically frozen Rangie for 3 years.

It's big and potentially very expensive job. You'd need at very least the following:

- ZF Auto
- Bell housing
- Flywheel/ring gear
- Drive plate
- Torque Convertor
- Auto cooler pipework
- Auto cooler
- Autobox ECU
- Autobox wiring loom
- Auto Td5 ECU
- Transmission tunnel top plate
- Auto shifter
- Main wiring harness (basically all wiring behind dash)
- Pedal box assembly
- alter BCU and SLABS settings to reflect change from Manual to Auto.

As sheerluck suggests buying a wrecked auto td5 d2 as a donor vehicle is likely to be the only realistic way to do the swap.

Like I said, it all depends on how much you can spend, and how much you're willing to spend.
Different for all of us
