right hand rear blinker not working - no its not the bulb

    Afternoon everyone,

The right hand rear blinker has decided to stop working today

I have had the assembly out and tested the bulb(replaced) and still no blinking from it.

I have sprayed contact cleaner on the pug and socket, and still nothing.

Chucked a multimeter on the socket and could not get connection.

Have checked the fuses in the fuse box under the steering wheel, and couldnt see any blown fuses.

So before I start tracking down an open circuit in the wiring loom (that doesnt sound like fun to me) does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look next?

    Cheers

    Matt

Change the fuse anyway, and also check that you have power at the fuse! Be very unusual to have a break in the wiring 'tween fuse and rear. Not impossible, just unusual It could be the switch but again unlikely as when they break it is quite apparent mostly.

    Thanks Scott,

Correct me if im wrong though, if it was the fuse, wouldnt the whole right hand side blinking stop? I only ask as I have front and... lets call it centre.... blinkers working no problem, just the rear. Or am I completely missing the point here.

    Cheers

Have you checked that the contact strip in the bulb holder is okay? One of those that had rusted out sent me on a merry chase around the electrical side of things.
Also, it's fairly common for other fuses to cause issues with various lights, not entirely sure what or why but I've definitely seen it on here.

    Early or update D2.

If it is an early one with the light in the rear bumper I put my money on the connector. These are known to fail occasionally.

Are you getting power to the plug?

Do you have a trailer plug - does the right indicator on the trailer work? You can also check this in the trailer plug, it is one of the outside ones on the flat pin sockets with the center offset pin being the earth.

    Thanks Disco,

Yeah I have checked the metal strip, and not rusted at all. I have complete continuity all the way to the male connector plug.

When I get a chance to go out and look at ALL fuses, I will see what I find. I will also check the Earth point.... having just looked at the electrical diagram in RAVE.

    Ahh the earth point.
I had an NAS RAVE copy, which has all D2s as being 7 seats.
So it says "Earth point behind seatbelt reel"
Took me soooooo long to work out they meant the rear most seatbelt reel, just open the little vent panel and it's there.

It is a 2002 model, so mid way between.

in relation to power to the plug, Brake light works fine and reversing light works, so its just the r/h back blinker that is not working.

I will check the trailer plug and see if the r/h blinker is working there, and let you know

Yes that is correct. I was reading it as no indicators on that side Ahh none so blind As DM and Bundelene say the contact strips are very suspect, not only on the early models either(Mine is a '02) if there has been moisture in there at all or the bulb has been loose and heated the contacts.

I had the same issue with my RHS brale light but was intermittant, take off lens clean, chk with multi, spray with wd40 etc etc, suddenly working, 2 days later someone telling me RHS brake light out, changed fuse and bulb now all good, according to multi both bulb and fuse was om, strange typical LR

    Cheers
