    Chipped?

    Evening folks.
Trying to work out if my Td5 has a chip or not.
Lady I got it from didn't mention it, but then again there was a whole lot about it she didn't mention.
As mine is a pre-facelift, I've got a non flashable ECU so short of a sticker on it the only way I'd be able to tell would be having someone look at it.
It holds nicely on hills, and in third it will shot past most things.
Doesn't seem to suffer from turbo lag terribly, and on the odd occasion when it is noticeable it goes away very quickly. I managed to beat dad in his manual Navara which pulls away very nicely in a straight line drag race, so I'm starting to wonder if mine is standard or chipped.
What other areas to chipped Td5s really shine? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the lid off and have a look. The flash memory chip will be socketed if its been chipped. You might be able see damage around the edge of the lid where it's been levered. If you have go at the lid, heat around the top edge of the lid with a hair drier or heat gun to soften the sealant.

Mate, stock D2s will conquer most japper stuff in 3rd
Easiest way to tell if you are chipped, get somebody to follow you whilst you punish it.Black smoke matched with good performance would indicate a chip.
In cool/cold weather a stock D2 also gains a fair bit more horses compared to jap stuff
Mine if punished will engage the traction control on dry bitumen Not reccomended, the cross pins in the transfercase arent up to it.
    Enjoy

You've never seen my dad drive
I'll admit I was expecting him to win easily as the Navara pushes along nicely.
It certainly gives a bit of smoke if you give it the boot, and I have broken traction pulling out in a hurry.
Gets up to sort of....75 quite well, a tad sluggish getting up to 100 but it just lurves 120.

Not 100% sure on this but have a look. My old ecu like yours had a number etched into it on the back, I was thinking this could have been Bruce Davis markings as when I first got the car I asked Davies if it is chipped and he said yes. I think these numbers (3 digits) are their marker.

ECU might be standard and the wastegate might have just been adjusted for more power?

AFAIK the wastage is standard, I started to fiddle with it then I started bending things so I decided to cease and desist
It pulls very nicely in third locked, gets up to 70 quite quickly but 70 to 100 is a bit eh.

That's what I was thinking, except it absolutely eats hills in third, and will pull away quick smart, i.e almost no turbo lag.
    I can dream
