    Fuel consumption 265 75 16 BFG

    Hi all,
I am currently trying to work out some fuel consumption figures for my auto TD5. I am running 265 75 16 BFGoodrich ATs and the best fuel economy I can get is 13.7L/100km which is about 7.2km/L. I tried the standard tires and the difference is about 40-50ks a tank. On the freeway with the standard tires I managed 12.7L/100km. So far I have had a performance chip installed, new MAF, full service, all filters changed, new FPR, new wastegate modulator, cleaned all other sensors, had the injector harness changed, injector seals and washers replaced and on the advise of a ZF "specialist" had the trans and converter reconditioned because that was the problem (apparently). I'm just not seeing any improvements and wondering if its as good as its going to get.
    Any help would be great.

    Thanks Andrew

td5 auto discos can be pushed down into the high end of the 9l/100 range but typically high 10s and low 11's are the norm for average driving.

if you've got any kind of roof rack that automatically pulls about 1l/100 out of it.

    How are you driving it?
Where are you doing your consumption run tests?
What tyre pressures are you on?
Whats the wind and weather like?

are you allowing for the difference between distance travelled on the odometer to actual distance travelled over the ground?. the 265/75 will under read on the odo by 10% approx.

I drive it pretty easy most of the time. Tire pressures are around 38psi and I don't really see much difference between suburban and rural driving. I haven't had a chance to test it on the F3 (where I tested with standard tires) with the bigger tires yet. There is no roof rack either. And yes I calculated the odometer loss due to the error from tire size. Last tank of fuel I got close to 550km (500km showing no the trip meter) out of 76L.

I changed to 16's from 18's about 3 years ago and have maintained good fuel logs over the period. Found in particular on the highway, the consumption was much lower, can't offer any comparison figures because mines a V8. The 16's I run are 8.94% larger than the 18's I had.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

I'm running this size with BFG KM2's at 50PSI on the highway.
My set up is roof rack, steel bars front(with winch) and rear, tools, recovery gear, 20ltr water, full side bins, fridge and duel battery.
I get figures of just better than 15/100 most of the time using the odometer. I've never worked out the 7% as I hit the zero button each fill so go off the Km travelled.
Doesn't seam to alter much between highway or low range play days until it hits the sand.

I've heard of sub 10/100 but I can only dream of this with my set up
    Cheers, Kyle

I had three D2 TD5 autos all new and they all had very similar fuel economy.Running either the OEM michelins or BFG A/T made very little difference to economy.

Around town they all got around 11 to 11.5l/100.On a run they all got in the low 9l/100 pretty easily,as long as you didn't go over 100k/hr.

What did push fuel usage up was a snorkle and BD chip that were fitted at the same time on the D2a which was the last one i had. These were fitted two yrs after it was bought new,so i had logged fuel calculations before and after.

Never did much towing with any of them.

As for the D4,it can't match the fuel economy of the D2,and the fuel tank is smaller which is a PITA
