Unhappy Auto out , manual in ...

Evening all , i have been tossing up swapping out the auto box for a manual for a while now and after installing a vnt kit and finding the auto not feeling very nice any more i decided the time had come . So , the last 2 days have been spent swapping out all the mechanical side of things .
Now the manual box is in and clutch is working I put in an manual ecu . But .... I can't get the car to start now . I get 6 chimes when i turn on the ignition and the m and s lights flashing . I have been googling and will continue looking .
So far i think i need to have the bcu reprogramed .
Has any one hear done this conversion , heard of it being done and the issues involved or know how to reprogram the bcu (is this something i can do with a nanocom?)
If anyone can stear me in the right direction i will be very happy . Thanks , Bill.

Yes, you have to reprogram the BCU from auto to manual, and you can do this with nanocom. It seems that some of the output from the XYZ switch on the auto transmission must go through the BCU. I forgot to plug some of the harnesses into the BCU once and I had similar symptoms.

    Thanks Jafir ,
I got tha nanocom out and switched any setting i could find from auto to manual gearbox and this has stopped the m and s lights flashing but i am still getting ,sometimes 5 sometimes 6 slow chimes when i turn on the ignition and no cranking of the motor . All the dash lights shut off when i turn the key to start position . Anyone have any clues to solve this ?

Battery must have more than 12.2V, the earthing to the trans and engine must be tight and correct, the earths in engine compartment must all be tight and clean. Check basics like these first, I have seen many issues like these fixed from cleaning and tightening electrical connections.

As JC says. With any vehicle, not just disco's,If you attempt to start and the dash dies and no starter it will be earthing or dead battery ALWAYS! Be it a Western Star or the kids trail bike

And don't forget even if you do get it cranking and if it still won't fire to check the inertia switch hasn't been tripped when removing and refitting the trans.

x2 shuy1. Tell me about the stupid western star bad earths. Its nearly my primary job chasing them on new stars. They can cause some truly bizzare symptoms. Good luck .

AFAIK the auto ECU is different to the manual ECU in an EU3 engine anyway.
The auto ECU has additional circuitry to run the auto through the CANBUS and certainly there is an interface as the auto section of the ECU responds to driver demand by reading MAF values.

I don't know if you can go manual without changing the ECU but I am certain you cannot go auto from manual.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the tips guys .
I managed to get it going today . I am not very confident with the nanocom yet but after a while of slowly going through the pages i got it all switched over to manual trans . Once this had been done properly the moter started fine .
The anoying chiming that was happening turned out to be a seat belt warning . Got that turned off too .needed to find the reverse light wires and also the break pedal switch dosen't contact with the pedal so that needs adjusting although i'm not sure why.
All in all pretty happy with how it is going now , towed the boat down for a spot of fishing this arvo and it pulls well but i think it needs a remap to make the most of the vnt kit .
