    Hi Schuy

I am thinking of fitting a snorkel myself.
How long did it take to fit ?
    Easy or Hard ?

    Thanks in advance

It took me all day , 9am start and finished at 5? That was because I had to fab a pillar mount and let the sealent dry in the joints. Plus Im a slow worker It is easy though, just take your time, make certain the template is aligned properly, check, recheck and check again! And have all the correct tools, holesaw, step drill, file( for smoothing edges) There is a good tutorial on here if u search.
And strong nerves to make the first cut!
    Cheers Scott

Have you got the 1000 or the 1400 GTR? I looked at the 1400 when I bought my V-Strom 650 but there were precious few that ticked all the boxes I had. I had my wife convinced that although it was a 1400 it wasn't a hoon bike like a Hayabusa. And how comfortable she'd be back there compared to the last bike she pillioned on - a Kwaka Z750 (no grab handles, seat the size of one butt cheek, etc). If I'd found the right one for under $15 000 I'd have bought it. I should have waited a bit longer as in the end I bought the DL650 from a guy in Melbourne and rode it home to Murgon. Hardly a 'local' purchase.

Anyway, this has taken the thread quite OT but who cares?

The issue with the water ingress into the filter box needs more investigating I think. I might try something creative like removing the filter and putting a Dolphin torch or some other bright torch in there, put the lid back on and then check if there are areas that light is leaking through. It'll be bloody cold in the shed tonight though. At least I won't be lying on the concrete floor - I scored a bargain creeper the other week at Supercheap. It was only about $40. Considerably cheaper than my preferred idea of cutting an inspection pit into the garage floor. Now I just have to watch my nose as I scoot past the diffs.

Thanks for the heads up re the oiling of the K&N. More reading to do still. And the fire needs more wood.
Mines an old 91 model gtr 1000, the black, only got 55000 on the clock though, which for them is not run in yet! I looked at a 1400 last year but I suffer a bit of ducks disease and I just could not touch the ground enough for my likeing. I dont ride enough to warrent the outlay either!
I think the water would be entering via the inlet/ snorkel, meaning the drains are blocked/ not big enough. Raining nicely here at the moment though cold with it Throw another tree on that fire!
    Cheers Scott

Cheers Scott. I'll have a look at those drains and see if they're working as intended.

I'm off work with a disc problem at the moment - which completely stuffed my planned ride to Canberra over the past few weeks to spend some time at the War Memorial. I was all set to stick on a new chain and sprockets, Airhawk seatpad, new Stebel horn, new heated grips, new winter gloves, etc....and then I rooted my back again. Now the bike is in pieces waiting for me to be able to work on it.

Sucks. But that's how it goes. I can't even crawl under the Disco to do work under there either. Well, if I trebled the dose of my painkillers I could probably do it with ease...but pay for it severely 2 days later! Heck, I could even split the load of firewood that was just delivered too...

I'll grab a bottle of the K&N filter oil next time I see somewhere selling it. It sounds like it's not quite the maintenance-free version that I'd thought it was going to be. While the fairings are off it's a good opportunity to tidy up all the wiring that I've just poked into gaps here and there over the past few years of ownership.

You're not wrong about the GTR favouring a taller rider either. I'm long in the leg so it suited me well. Very comfy position.
