Alternately does it have rubber under the feet and outer plates?

agree sticky type rubber that will allow the clamps to grip the gutter...

Never had an issue with mine. And certainly hit some floodways faster than I should have....

I did have it knocking on front left over spirited dip driving, but bending the outer L shaped clamp to fit seemed to cure it.

Based on experience with Baja racks, the first thing I would check is that all the feet are contacting the gutter inside.
It looks like a Baja rack in that it does not appear to have any adjustment on the top part of the feet to allow for production tolerances in Discos.

If they are not all contacting the feet should be packed with something hard eg tyre rubber to level them out. if this is not done the long term result may be weld separation on the rack or maybe distortion of the roof. When I was with bajarack we had this happen to a D1 .

The retention method for the feet also looks sus to me. There should be a way of tensioning up the feet onto the bottom of the gutter e.g. a screw mounted vertically. failing that I guess you could get a BIG pair of multigrips to clamp the brackets as you tighten up the bolts.

It seems to me the that the basic problem is that there is not enough clamping force on the gutter, so maybe some high friction material is the answer but you should check the above also.

What sort of weight do you have in yours?

As you can see in the first picture, mine has a roof top tent, awning jerry can holder, gas bottle holder, Maxitrac holder and hilift jack bracket permanently attached to the rack.

Not as much...

Spare wheel, high lift, plus two jerries

And my memory was jogged... Part of the knocking was the front right foot being a mm or two above the gutter. Put something under it, then also sit on the rack when doing it up, there's a mm or two of flex in it.

I'll see if I can get a pic of the s bend I put into the clamp plate to pull flatter and neater too. Seemed to help.

Forgot today. I'm now on a greyhound bus and it will be on the back of a semi tomorrow. It'll have to wait until we are reunited.
