    EGR Cooler Removed .....

    Hello,
    Doing work on my TD5 and since removing my EGR and EGR cooler many years ago, I see that it is feed by a outlet from the oil cooler on the engine block and that funny rubber pipe that has a different size at each end. So if mine is gone is it okay to remove that hose and block it off at the oil cooler, as it seems the only purpose is to supply the EGR cooler, with a slow bleed back to the expansion tank, so one less thing to go wrong. The water circulating around the block still cooler and heats the oil cooler.
    Working on it tomorrow, and the head back on hopefully on the weekend.

    Hello,
    What............nothing no options at all.........................I see the earlier models had it going straight to the bottom of the radiator..... if it sole purpose is to feed the EGR then it can be blocked off looking at RAVE this is all it seems to do.... if it is to make sure that the water around the oil cooler does circulate then it has to stay.. somebody has to have a idea about this...

    Yes the hoses can be removed all the way back to the oil cooler and the outlet blanked off. The hoses are only to feed the EGR cooler. There are some posts here about it. A lot less piping to go wrong

    Don't block it off, its a circulation line for the oil cooler, the pre EGR cooler models have them going back to the radiator suction side for a reason.

    Its easy enough to make a bypass for it from the steel pipe link it to the header tank with a couple of brass fittings and 5/8" and 3/8" heater hose.

    This did have me wondering if it was required and what you say does make sense. Where can I get a 5/8 to 3/8 adapter?

    I just made one using a brass female elbow and two brass barbs of the right size and linked it back to the header tank.
