I am looking at fitting heated seats to my Disco. Since it is just a pimped up S model. Its the stock interior just with leather seats. So that means a very cold butt in winter.

So I have found some heated seat kits. Looking at just a universal seat kit. As currently I dont think there is any wiring there for heated seats.So might as well start from scratch with something with full wiring.

And am just wondering how many pins the factory seat switches have. As it looks like the after market ones are 3 pin. I think there should be a 4th for earth. But cant see it in the pictures.
Where as the factory switch looks like it has it is 4 pin.

The factory switches have 5 pins, with only 4 being used.

Pin 1 - Live in

Pin 2 - Live from dash illumination

Pin 3 - Not used

Pin 4 - Switched live out

Pin 5 - Earth


They are a single pole on/off switch, with the 'tell tale' warning LED connected internally across pins 4 and 5, so that it illuminates when the switch is in the 'on' position.

There is a RH and LH switch, which are electrically identical: however, they have different keyways on their body (so that they will only fit into the appropriate position on the centre console), and they use different coloured 5-way connectors (which are also keyed differently).


Pre-facelift (1999 - 2002)

RH switch - YUG102440 (Ash Grey) - uses Black switch connector





LH switch - YUG102430 (Ash Grey) - uses Green switch connector





Post-facelift (2003 - 2004)

RH switch - YUG500080PUY (Black) - uses Black switch connector





LH switch - YUG500050PUY (Black) - uses Green switch connector





The pre-facelift (Ash Grey) switches are the same as used in the TD5 Defender (2002 - 2006)
