Thread: Turn signal has about a 2 second delay

The lubricant in the switches has dried out. WD40 etc can be sprayed into them without too much effort.

I was getting about 5 second delay before using this method to fix:
- Unscrew and remove cover that sits top and bottom of steering column from underneath.
- spray a lot of contact cleaner into areas (top and bottom) where indicator and wiper switches join steering column (whilst lifting lever up and down repeatedly - you can see metal contact points whilst doing this).
- Stalks will likely not shift smoothly now, so some silicon spray using above method will rectify this.
- May need to repeat this 2-3 times over a few weeks, but seemed easier to me than pulling stalks off, etc. and was pretty quick to do each time.

I reckon I could do that. Any particular brand?

I think I used the CRC brand for both from memory.

Mine does the same.....even worse in winter for some reason. Would be quicker to wind down the window and stick my arm out. Turning left would be interesting!

The dirty old lubricant gets quite thick in cold weather.

Use INOX brand spray lubricant . WD40 and most of the others are not electrical contact friendly! Sure, they will get it going in the short term but they contain acids that pit and corrode copper in the contacts . The Lanox lanolin spray is probably not a good idea as it does get sticky!
