Buying tips for MY 00 Td5 Disco

    Hi all,

I am having a look at a local Disco on the weekend and I was wondering what things I should be looking out for.

    I am somewhat aware of the following issues with the td5;

*The injector loom needs replacing periodically

*Something about checking a certain bolt which may not have loctite

*Plastic dowels associated with the head

The vehicle has 215k on it and is an auto, and has apparently been serviced every 5k by the local ARB dealer (as far as I am aware there are no LR specialists in Tamworth).

Should I be worried/concerned/suspicious that the head, turbo, radiator and hoses have been replaced before 215k? Is this normal, or an indicator of neglect or something?

If any one is interested here is the ad:

First off, Good choice, welcome to the Td5 D2 master race

Injector loom is a bit hit and miss, they do eventually migrate oil through the loom to the ECU plug causing rough running. Yet to have mine done at just under 250km.
Oil Pump bolt may or may not have Loctite on it, simple job to drop the sump, check the bolt or replace, new sump gasket and back on it goes.
Early Td5s have Plastic head dowels which can cause the head to shift if overheated, but you should try to avoid overheating the Td5 as they don't really like it.
Auto gearboxes get a bit iffy after 200k supposedly but mine is still running beautifully, just keep on top of the services and use good quality ATF.
I'm pretty sure there is a LR service centre in Tamworth, we got ours serviced at Woodleys motors, not sure if they still do it.

If it's had all those items done before 215 then that indicates that something has gone quite wrong, but at the same time they shouldn't have to be touched again. Your call.
Have a read up on the "Buying a D2" guide in the D2 section.

First thing I'd do (and did do), check the front and rear prop shafts. Front ones have a bad habit of wearing out and letting go. But mate, all the best with your purchase. TD5 is so far the best 4x4 I've owned.

And if you are into doing mechanical stuff yourself, then you may want to think about buying a Nanocom or Hawkeye diagnostic tool.

Think of it as an addition to your tool box, very useful.

I think that is pretty cheap for those km's. Good luck.
