Car broken in to, replacement window advice

    Hey guys,

My Disco 2 with factory Land Rover tinted glass was broken it to about 1 hour ago now. (Bastards).

Any way, they have smashed the rear, drivers side, quarter window. I just need to know if a auto glass shop (Obriens?) will be able to match the tint or am I best to search around and see if I can get a second hand window.

    Unhappy days.

That's a bugger of a thing for you to have to deal with mate.

Personally, I'd be making some calls to wreckers, or checking fleabay to get an idea of prices - then you'll know if it's worth wasting your insurance excess on...

Did they put that big crack in your windscreen too? [cough, insurance fraud, cough]

I already have windscreen protection (insurance) and yes it has a decent star type break on the drivers side but I'm not too worried about it and it passed rego.

I'll check eBay. Since I'm at work now, I am going to get my old man to drop past the windscreen joint to see what they say.

Just windscreen protection? My excess free glass cover covers all windows, not just the windscreen - might be worth checking

I'm on the phone to GIO now. Looks like your right. All windows are covered, Nil excess and without the claim affecting the NCD.

    Happy Day.

I just wish I wasn't the only car in the street with a car alarm. They'd broken into at least 5 other cars and then got to mine. As soon as they opened the door, the alarm started the horn going and they took off. My wife was already awake and saw them speed past the house while she was on the phone to me. She got a partial rego which she has handed on to police. They didn't get into my car, I guess they thought my horn would wake the neighbourhood.

Was a bit anoying that I had seen the car going into the suburb about 20 minutes earlier when I was going to work. I was a fair way from home and they'd have no way of knowing which house I'd left, it was just a coinsidence that I'd seen them.

    Oh well.

Opened the door? So you only had it locked with the key? with the fob button D2's "superlock" which disables the interior handles to prevent smashing a window and opening the door. The volumetric alarm is what detects the movement inside and triggers. Bet they got a shock after doing all the others with no disturbance! Good that is all they did.
    Cheers Scott
