    TD5 Cylinder head gasket ?

1999 TD5 with 278 K km. Engine loosing coolant with no visible signs.
No oil in coolant or water in oil. Oil level stays constant.
Even after 3 or 4 days there is a hiss on removal of reservoir cap, don't know if it is pressure or vacuum.
Can you identify which head gasket is required without removing the head.
As I don't feel confident to do the work myself & I would assume it would be expensive labour wise, would it be advisable to replace the head as well ?
Don't know if it is related but I have an intermittent problem if accelerating up an incline & back off then accelerate again there is a delay of a few seconds then clouds of grey smoke & off we go again.
Other than this & coolant loss vehicle runs fine.
    Hoping someone can advise.

    Regards,

    Jeff.

    Hello,
Mine had the same problem I did take the head off after looking it was the water pump, not the head gasket but after 200000 ks it looked like it wasn't going to last much longer so all good, had the oil cooler go as well, usually the best way is to take it to a radiator place and get it sniffed for hyrocarbons, or put a clean bottle under the overflow on the expansion tank for a couple of days and keep a eye on it.
