I had to take the starter motor out to brace the engine to undo mine going
to do the same to do it up.
Ther eis a locking tool being advertised on the forum by Psimpson 7 in Markets "tools".
I have one and it looks the duck's guts.
hope I never have to use it, but I bet I do.
Guess we had better make sur ethat Ross puts the bolts in the same position!
    Regards Philip A

Thanks to the good work of Davros and others, I began exploring the noise at the engine front end. Sounded like a timing chain in an aluminium casing but was in fact a badly worn locator bearing in the harmonic balancer. Being unimpressed by the quality and pricing of new or remanufactured replacements, I bought a new bearing ($10) and had some machining done ($50) to enable the bearing to be replaced without disturbing the sealed metallic ring around the rubber insert and risking poor re adhesion. First attempt secured the bearing with locktite and 3,000 k's later of caravan towing all is smooth. A later development is the insertion of a circlip in an appropriate groove to retain the bearing.
There is scope for a dual roller bearing to gain longevity but this is a bit complex at the moment.

Will pursue further over coming months and report again.

    Cheers Mac

Don't say hire places as the do not have them. I have tried.
We all have these balancers and there must be some place without buying for a hopefully a once in a lifetime bolt.

You need a torque multiplier, my next door neighbour has one, he is a truck driver, uses it on his truck. Ask at truck repair places, they may hire one out to you, Bob
